Job Title: Community Reporter

Terra Indigena news is seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Reporter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in Indigenous affairs, community events, and local issues affecting the Peguis First Nation. You will be responsible for producing high-quality civic journalism that informs, engages, and reflects the diversity and evolving nature of our community.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and write stories the informs the community about what is happening in civics including band council, school board, hospital, law enforcement, courts, fire department, Health Centre, Child & Family Services, community trusts, affiliated agencies, federal & provincial programs.

Reporting & Writing:

Conduct interviews with community members, leaders, trustees, law enforcement officials and stakeholders that will enable citizens to be informed participants in their governance.

Qualifications:

A degree or diploma in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is desirable.

Previous experience in reporting or writing is an asset but not mandatory.

Familiarity with Indigenous issues, cultures, and communities is highly desirable.

Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

Requirements:

Must be eligible to work in Canada.

Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

Must live in the area or be willing to relocate within commuting distance. Eg. Peguis, FIsher River, Fisher Branch, Arborg etc.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when necessary.

Salary range:

A starting salary of $44,000 per year.
