PEGUIS CFS development near Old Stone Church goes to public hearing
Peguis Child and Family Services is proposing a cultural development on two properties near the historic St. Peter’s Dynevor Old Stone Church.
The conditional-use application will be considered by the Rural Municipality of St. Clements at a public hearing beginning at 6 p.m. Aug. 25 at the St. Clements Council Chambers in East Selkirk.
According to public planning documents, Wolsey Wall Architecture & Interior Design submitted the application on behalf of Peguis CFS for a development called The Heart of Our Ancestors Land Development.
The proposal includes an approximately 6,000-square-foot ceremonial lodge, 10 small A-frame cabins, a harvesting shed, an outdoor and storage building, wellness and playground areas, roofed gazebos, trails, monuments and a floating boardwalk connecting the two properties.
The plans also show approximately 167 parking stalls and a proposed caretaker residence.
The properties, located at 0 and 1 Stone Church Road, are currently zoned Agricultural Restricted. Peguis CFS is seeking conditional-use approval to accommodate the proposed development.
The Red River Planning District report recommends approval subject to 16 conditions, including requirements related to drainage, flood elevations, wastewater and drinking water, heritage approval, riparian habitat, geotechnical work and a development agreement with the RM.
The recommendation is not a final decision. St. Clements council will consider the application following the Aug. 25 public hearing.
